Confessions of a Tired Momma

At 2 am the other night, a desire to write swelled in my soul. 2 am ya'll. Clearly still in the Mom time zone. I'd like to say beautiful, captivating poetry flowed from a stylish calligraphy pen, but let's keep it real. This momma fell asleep whilst trying to articulate how extreme fatigue consumes her on the daily. What you have before you is a list scribbled down while in a state of delirium.

For your amusement. From one tired momma to the next, Enjoy!

Crusty eyes.
Dark circles.
Quiet giggles in the next room.
9:00 am
Cozy slippers.
Barrage of food requests.
Toy cars.
Fill water bottles.
Hot tea brewing.
9:15 am
Clean clothes on.
Move laundry.
Unload dishes.
Clean kitchen.
Sweep.
9:32 am
School.
Hours.
Tears.
Achievements.
12:00 pm
Make lunch together.
Eat.
Dishes again.
Read together.
Worn out.
2:00 pm
Freedom.
Free play.
3:00 pm
Break.
Judge Judy.
Exercise bike.
4:00 pm
Crafts.
Play dough snakes.
Lego castles.
Sweep again.
6:00 pm
Prepare dinner.
Just throw it in the pot!
Scarf food in 2 minutes.
Dishes...again.
Clean kitchen...again.
Back ache.
Feet hurt.
Exhaustion.
6:30 pm
Husband walks in.
"Busy day?"
Eye twitch.
Frazzled hair.
Smile .
"Same as always."
Bathe kids.
Brush teeth.
Potty break.
3 stories.
Hugs.
Special song.
Potty break again .
Tuck in .
5 minutes.
Tuck in again.
2 minutes.
Potty break...again.
1 minute.
Worn down resolve.
Snuggle in Recliner.
2 hours later.
Last kid asleep.
Hubby snoring.
Tidy up.
Really, really exhausted now.
Can't sleep.
3 hours.
Check that everyone is still covered.
Hubby awakens for work.
Make his lunch.
Sit.
Sleep.
Rollover.
Alarm going off.
Another day.
Here we go.

As moms we often forget the importance of the mundane, unglamorous busy that makes up our day. The kids are still alive and the house is clean...kind of, so there's that.

Budget Life: Homeschooling

Hi there. I am starting a mini series called Budget Life that will include tips on how we live on a single income. Today's topic is homeschooling. Homeschooling can be expensive with all the fancy curriculums and extracurricular activities available today. It feels overwhelming to decide what's worth the money and what's not. Homeschooling is also a very personal endeavor and no two homeschools are exactly the same. With that said, I am going to share with you some of the ways I navigate homeschooling on a strict budget. Here is a list of FREE homeschooling resources that I personally use. Find free community events and schedule them on your calendar. Surf Facebook for local events or the famous Google search. There are free STEM fests, Healthy kid events, Movies in the park, Fishing with free-to-use poles & bait, Concerts, Educational library classes, and all the free holiday events. This is a huge money saver and you can still have great fun and do lots of li...

10 Ways to Prompt Learning

We knew from the start we wanted to homeschool our kids. Now with a toddler, we've ventured into schooling on a daily basis. I have a lot to learn moving forward with educating our children, but here are a list of 10 things we do to prompt learning... 1. Library. They have free classes that we attend weekly, that include activities such as story time, crafts, music and dance, and socializing with peers. The library is also great for reading, teaching your littluns to check out books, library etiquette practice, and exploring educational online games. 2. Aquarium/Zoo. My husband and I quite enjoy going to view the animals as well,  so it's a fun family outing. And educational! 3. Educational Movies. Our kids rather love and learn from Leapfrogs, VeggieTales, and Wild Kratts. You can find some educational movies at the library! 4. Discovery Channel. Another family friendly, educational, Friday night plan! 5. Workbook. I found an $8 kindergarten workbook at a local Wal...

The Ways of Old

Little House on the Prairie shaped my life as a young girl. With dreams of romping through the meadow, stoking a fire, and cooking in a black kettle; a simplified life was calling me. Ironically, I grew up in the city and ate frozen burritos for dinner. Where's my people at? In my daydreams, I fancy sitting in a rocking chair, sipping lemongrass tea, as I knit my children a sweater. Truth is I don't own a rocking chair and I haven't the slightest clue how to knit...yet. Here's the thing, you can learn anything you set your mind to, at least that's what I'm teaching my children. Instead of just saying it though, showing it seems to make a lasting impression. So, this apartment living, city dwelling momma is on a mission to teach her children the ways of old. That looks like gardening on an apartment balcony, in pots, painstakingly every year. Why? Because there is a lesson of beauty in growing your own food. Understanding the fruits of your labor....
